Stellantis Unveils Ambitious North American Growth Strategy
Stellantis announced a significant strategic initiative at an investor day, targeting a 35% increase in its North American sales by the year 2030. This ambitious goal is set to be primarily driven by revitalizing its core brands, particularly Ram Trucks and the storied Chrysler marque. The automaker plans to achieve this growth by expanding its product portfolio and enhancing market coverage across its traditional U.S. brands.
The company’s plan forecasts substantial sales increases for its key brands: Chrysler and Ram Trucks are expected to see a 60% surge, while the Dodge performance brand is projected to grow by 10%, and Jeep by 15%. Stellantis did not provide specific sales targets for its Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands in North America, which have a more limited presence.
Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, who also leads Stellantis’s other American brands, detailed the objective to elevate total sales for these brands from 1.4 million vehicles in the past year to 1.9 million by 2030. This growth is targeted even with an expectation of flat overall industry volume during the same period, estimated at 20 million vehicles annually. Stellantis plans to achieve this expansion largely through new vehicle introductions designed to broaden the company’s market reach, Kuniskis said Thursday during an investor event where the company announced a new five-year, 60 billion euro (approximately US$69.7 billion) turnaround plan under CEO Antonio Filosa.
Product Expansion and Financial Targets
“We’re not choosing between growth and profitability. We will improve both together,” Filosa stated Thursday regarding the company’s North American operations. The strategic roadmap includes increasing the number of available models by 50%, with a particular emphasis on both entry-level and high-performance vehicle segments. Concurrently, the automaker aims to boost regional revenue by 25% by 2030, targeting an adjusted operating margin in the range of 8% to 10%.
A key component of this strategy involves increasing the availability of affordable vehicles priced under $40,000. Stellantis expects to expand its offerings in this segment from two models to nine by 2030. Furthermore, the company is set to introduce eight new SRT performance models, aiming to significantly boost sales in this niche from approximately 3,000 units last year to around 50,000 units annually within the same timeframe, according to Kuniskis.
Kuniskis detailed plans for the Chrysler brand, which currently offers only a minivan. He announced three new crossover models, including options priced below $30,000, intended to revitalize the brand. For Ram, the company is planning a new midsize pickup truck and a large SUV. Jeep will see refreshed models within its large SUV lineup, and Dodge will introduce a new crossover, he also said.
The introduction of eight new SRT models under the five-year plan is seen as crucial for brand building and creating “halo” vehicles, Kuniskis explained. “The SRT products are the essence of ‘halo’ and brand building,” he said. “These models don’t just elevate the whole brand, they draw a younger and more affluent customer.” Halo vehicles, such as SRT models, are often iconic products with unique designs and high-performance parts, regularly used to attract attention to a car nameplate or brand.
Kuniskis further elaborated on the profitability of these performance models, noting that SRT vehicles, which largely share non-performance parts with other models, generate profits three times that of a regular vehicle. This strategic focus on high-margin, high-performance vehicles, alongside an expansion of affordable options, underpins Stellantis’s dual approach to growth and profitability in North America.
The announcement follows the recent reveal of new Ram Rumble Bee “muscle trucks,” featuring V-8 engines and enhanced performance specifications. A top-end SRT Hellcat model is slated to offer 777 horsepower and a targeted top speed of 170 miles per hour, rivaling some sports cars. The Rumble Bee launches with the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 starting in late 2026, with the Rumble Bee 392 and Rumble Bee SRT arriving in the first half of 2027.
