The U.S. Census Bureau serves as the definitive source for official U.S. export and import statistics, also holding responsibility for the regulations that govern the reporting of all export shipments originating from the United States. This agency provides critical data and tools for understanding the nation's trade activities.

Recent releases from the Department of Commerce offer detailed insights into U.S. international trade. The report, "Profile of U.S. Importing and Exporting Companies, 2023-2024," provides information on identified companies and their respective import and export values. This report was released on May 5, 2026.

Further enhancing accessibility, the Department of Commerce has launched USA Trade Online: Reimagined. This updated platform retains the essential data and functionalities that users depend on, while introducing a modernized interface and streamlined navigation. A key improvement is the ability for users to access the data without the need to create an account or log in, simplifying the user experience.

Another significant release is the "U.S. Exports by Metropolitan Area, Fourth Quarter 2025." This report offers quarterly data, not seasonally adjusted, detailing export activity broken down by specific metropolitan areas across the United States. It was published on March 12, 2026.

Earlier, on December 11, 2025, the Department of Commerce issued the "Preliminary Profile of U.S. Importing and Exporting Companies, 2024." This preliminary report also focuses on identified companies and their known export and import values, offering an early look at the trade landscape for that year.

In a report released on July 3, 2025, titled "U.S. Goods Trade: Imports & Exports by Related-Parties 2024," the Department of Commerce detailed the significance of related-party trade. In 2024, trade between related parties accounted for a substantial 44.0 percent of the nation's total goods trade, which amounted to $5,312.9 billion. Related-party total goods trade is calculated based on imports for consumption and total exports.

To facilitate easier data retrieval, the Department of Commerce developed the International Trade API Query Tool. This graphical user interface provides a live connection to the International Trade endpoints within the Census API, allowing users to select specific parameters and retrieve accurate API calls. This tool became available on May 12, 2025.

The "Profile of U.S. Importing and Exporting Companies, 2022-2023" was released on April 3, 2025, continuing the series that details the import and export values associated with identified companies.

On March 6, 2025, the Department of Commerce released "FT895: U.S. Trade with Puerto Rico and U.S. Possessions, 2024." This report specifically presents the total quantity and value of commodities shipped between the United States, Puerto Rico, and other U.S. possessions.

Significant changes in data accessibility were announced, with all international trade data products previously available only via subscription now being offered to the public at no cost and accessible directly on the Census Bureau's website. This move aims to broaden access to crucial trade information.

The "Preliminary Profile of U.S. Exporting Companies, 2023" was released on October 8, 2024, providing preliminary data on identified companies and their known export values for that year.

In a collaborative effort, the U.S. Census Bureau, alongside the United Kingdom's Department for International Trade and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), completed an asymmetry analysis for trade in goods statistics between the U.S. and the U.K. for the period spanning 2017 to 2022. This analysis was finalized on March 1, 2024.

Users can explore current and cumulative U.S. export and import data through the Census Bureau's Data Gem on USA Trade Online.
