Chipotle is launching its first restaurant in Mexico this week, marking the fast-casual chain’s initial entry into the country under a development agreement with restaurant group Alsea. The new San Pedro Garza García location, in the Monterrey metropolitan area of Nuevo León, opens on Thursday and signals the start of a broader rollout across the country, with plans for an expansion into Mexico City in 2027, according to Chipotle.

The company said it chose the Monterrey area because of its strong economy, growing population and status as one of Mexico’s leading business and innovation hubs. Chipotle emphasizes that the restaurant will feature the same menu as its U.S. locations and will maintain its standard of customization and freshness, aimed at offering the Chipotle experience with the same level of excellence customers expect abroad.

CEO Scott Boatwright said, We are entering Mexico with deep respect for the country’s culinary heritage and a commitment to delivering the Chipotle experience with excellence. The company also noted that international expansion through partnerships is a key element of its growth strategy as it seeks to regain momentum after a stagnant year. In total, Chipotle plans to open an additional 350 to 370 new restaurants this year as it broadens its footprint and introduces new menu offerings as part of its broader growth plan.

Chipotle currently operates more than 4,100 stores worldwide, including locations in the Middle East and Europe, underscoring its ongoing push into international markets through partnerships such as the Alsea deal for Mexico.
